CITY House, Plano works towards strengthening the community by helping youth and their families resolve physical and emotional crises. They provide intervention as well as prevention services like youth shelter, family counseling and life skills education to abused or neglected youth. They strive towards the goal of enabling families to function and interact more effectively.
The CITY House shelter is housed in a large home near downtown Plano. Around 15 children who have been removed from their families live here until they can be reunited with their families or have found a place in a long term shelter/camp. Currently CITY House is the only facility of it's kind in Collin County. Many children who need support are not helped because of the lack of more such facilities in this county.
CITY House ensures that these children attend their regular school. They drive the kids to their respective schools or other activities they have enrolled in no matter how far they are. This ensures that the children are not removed from their familiar surroundings and they don't feel left out. During their stay in the CITY House, the youth have to attend mandatory counseling sessions.
CITY house currently employs 10 fulltime employees in a 24 hour facility. These employees are highly trained and come with good field experience. The staff who spend time with the kids are expected to be around the kids at all times.
