It is visualized that the project will eliminate the traditional social system of negligence, oppression, exploitation on girls and women and enhance model childhood and livelihood development opportunities and replicate this model at two villages at Amta I block for education, training and livelihood development.

The mission of the project is to empower 100 girls of below poverty line families with primary education, vocational skills for their livelihood development and mainstreamed with self-help group action.

Project Description

As part of this project two villages have been targeted- Habla and Muktirchak villages in the Howrah region.

Non-Formal Education is proposed to be provided to 100 girls establishing 2 non-formal education centers in each GP in rented premises for a period of 12 months with the target to develop the capacity of the girls in reading, writing simple sentences, numerical calculations that will help them independent decision making and taking part in management of their future livelihood

Vocational Training: The education center will be turned into a vocational training center from 2-5 PM. Trained instructors will take classes on some fruitful vocations which have marketing prospects. Agriculture and allied sector based vocations like training on seasonal vegetable cultivation, kitchen gardening, goat rearing, Service based vocations like training on nursing care of older , Art based vocations like training on beautification, Designing and painting of banner, poster, sign board will be provided

Vibha is supporting this project by funding Rs.4,00,000 which will be used for providing the above mentioned non-formal education and vocational training to the 100 girls from the two villages

Organization Description

Ranapara Gram Bikash Kendra (RGBK) is a registered non-government organization. The organization is also registered under FCRA and u/s 12 A of Income Tax Act, 1961, and exempted u/s 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. It is also duly enlisted NGO under the West Bengal State AIDS Prevention & Control Society. The society is located at village Ranapara on the bank of the river Damodar. In rainy season due to heavy rain flood occurs and the poor villagers suffer with miseries, food insecurity and acute poverty. Considering this critical situation a group of youth, both male and female and young housewives came forward to form a group for relief work. Gradually it was felt that there are various uncovered areas that would need to address for solution. Thus the organization was founded in the year 1993 by a group of village social activists and relief workers of the area with a view to undertake comprehensive development initiatives for empowerment of poor and marginalized section of people, especially women and children of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward communities of below poverty line families and for women and children at risk.
